Dana White after alleged Conor McGregor bus attack: 'A lot worse' goes on in other sports
You think Conor McGregorâs alleged attack on a bus Thursday looks bad for mixed martial arts? Well, take a look at all of the other sports.
That was the sentiment from UFC president Dana White on Saturday night after UFC 223, the companyâs fight card in Brooklyn.
âPeople says to me, âOh this looks so bad for the sport,â and everything else," White said during a post-fight news conference. âI agree, it doesnât look good. But at the end of the day, thereâs a lot worse that goes on in all the other sports, so Iâll take a dolly through a window any day."
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, White angrily said, âThis is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of the company."
Despite the arrest of McGregor,
who faces two felony charges, White said UFC is in better shape than it was before Saturday night. He said UFC 223 was the highest-grossing sporting event in Barclays Center and drew a sellout crowd of 17,026 to the Brooklyn arena.
âYeah, in a perfect world itâd be great if Conor didnât show up and do that," White said âAnd obviously I didnât see that coming, or I wouldâve tried very hard to prevent that. But, yeah, we broke a record tonight (for gross ticket sales). ... And we didnât just break it, we blew it out of the water by almost $1 million."
